The model simply did not have enough data to learn the specific patterns associated with the underrepresented group, so its predictions for that group are often inaccurate.
The Consequences of Sample Selection Bias

Measurement Bias
Measurement bias, also known as “proxy bias” or “data distortion bias,” is a more insidious form of bias that comes from an error in the data collection or measurement process itself. It occurs when the data we think we are collecting does not accurately represent the real-world concept we are trying to measure. This often happens when we use a “proxy” metric—an easy-to-measure, related piece of data—to stand in for a complex, hard-to-measure concept. If the proxy is flawed, the model’s understanding of the world will be flawed.
For example, a medical diagnostic algorithm might be trained to predict the likelihood of a person being “sick.” Actually measuring “sickness” is very difficult.
