It is perfect for migrating legacy applications. If you have an old application that expects to run on a full operating system and write to /etc or run multiple daemons, you cannot easily package it in a Dockerfile. But you can lift and shift that entire server configuration into an LXC container with minimal changes.

LXD: The Management Layer for LXC

If LXC is the low-level tool, LXD is the modern management layer that makes it powerful and user-friendly. LXD provides a daemon with a REST API, a clean command-line client, and advanced features that bridge the gap between containers and virtual machines. It can cluster multiple hosts together, allowing you to manage a fleet of machines as a single logical unit.
