How to register for GRE online?

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is an exam taken by students to get admission in foreign colleges and universities, mostly in United States. The test is conducted and monitored by Education Testing Service. Initially around 1949 the test aimed to measure the verbal and quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking. These skills are attained by the students over a long period of time; it can’t be gained by studying a particular period of time in any school. The format of the exam is objective type having multiple choice questions, the scores of the test is a determining factor for the admission foreign graduate schools and the various department within schools. ETS had made some changes in august 2011 in the question pattern, making the exam more users friendly and less difficult in comparison to other exams. The changed pattern will make evaluation of students easier by the universities, enabling them to choose more deserving candidates. The new pattern is effective since august 2011. According to the GRE team this is largest change in the last 60 yrs of GRE history.
The GRE test is now computer based exam which is given by students in almost 230 countries. Because of this fact the test is done on computer, but it happens on paper mode too where there is unavailability of such factors. Most of the students take the test online, but some goes for paper based too. But in either case you have to register online, as it provides several features by the administrators. The test is now conducted on computers because it less moderation and is more feasible to students. The GRE test allows you to take date of your choice which is no an option with other competitive papers. To get registered online you have to just be aware of the steps and get acquainted with it, then the process is very simple.
Registration checklist
- You should read the cancellation and rescheduling policies and check for the fees before going for registration.
- You should check for the ID proofs listed. You are required to bring a valid ID card at the test center.
- You have to create an account on the GRE site before registration. Make sure you enter your details correctly, as mentioned in your other documents such as ID proof.
- You should decide earlier when you want to give the test. Make sure there is a gap between the deadline of your college admission and reporting of your score card.
- All the test centers are not open on all dates. Make sure your test center is opened on your choice of date.
- You can choose four college or institutions as part of your test fees. The GRE will send your scores on your behalf. Decide those names before.
- After you have all the necessary documents and requirements, sign into the GRE account you created and register from the options available.
Test registration
The students can register for paper based test or computer based test with a valid mode of payment, either through debit card or credit card. The students who are having any health related needs or disabilities cant register online. They have to look for other modes of registration. Following steps should be taken for registration:
- Go to GRE website. Then click on tests and products which have a link GRE Tests. Click on that link.
- You will see a page displaying Revised Genera Test under which you will find Register for test, click on that link
- You will reach the instructions page, read the details, and click the register now option on that page only
- This will direct you to the page to create your GRE account
- Then you will directed to country selection page, enter your country name and you will get to know whether you can have paper based test or computer based.
- After this you will be able to register online. Click into register
- You will be directed to a page that will have sign in request or sign up
- Click into sign up. You will be redirected to a page that will require all your necessary details.
- Fill it and you will be asked to confirm it or edit it again. Confirm if true otherwise edit it.
- Now you can take your desired username and password for your account. After entering the details click submit.
- After submit account created page will be displayed, click continue
- You will reach your home page of your GRE account look for register category and click on it
- Then you will be directed to country page, select country, then you will reach scoring details page, and then you will reach the fee payment page.
- Confirm the registration by paying the requisite fees.
- After the confirmation of payment you will have to select the tests center, date and time.
- One all done you will receive a mail on your mail id about the confirmation of the test registration.
You are allowed to take computer based GRE test once in every 21 days, five times in 12 months. This includes the test you gave but cancelled the score. If you opted for paper based test you can have that when ever it happens in your state. Incase the policy violation for retaking the exam is identified after the registration, the appointment is cancelled and the fees are forfeited. If violation is reported after score generation; the scores are cancelled and the student is informed for the same and the fee are forfeited.
